New Orleans Highlights

Staying at The Monteleone.  It's one of America's historic hotels!  There was a rooftop pool where you could see the city and a lookout with a view of the Mississippi River!  We went to the Carrousel Bar downstairs... it took me a minute to realize the circular bar was slowly rotating around the bartenders!  I'm sure that could be quite disturbing if you had too much to drink, but we thought it was cool.

Mardi Gras parade. Fun music, marching bands, and crazy floats throwing trinkets and beads. We didn't watch much because we were late so we didn't have a great view. But it was still fun!

Wandering through the quieter parts of the city.  We stopped by a neat hand-rolled cigar shop and chatted with the owner for a bit. Then we shared a cigar as we made our way to the cafe.

Cafe Du Monde.  Absolutely no wait for our delicious beignets, cafe au lait, and hot chocolate!  I'm pretty sure I could eat beignets every day... what's not to love about fried dough and powdered sugar?

Sleeping in.  Late.  Need I say more??? :o)

Breakfast at Fleur de Lis.  I had really really really wanted to have a big breakfast somewhere fun for my birthday... breakfast is my favorite meal to eat out!  But by the time we got up, around, and checked out, most places were done serving breakfast... not to be deterred, My Love dragged my disappointed, whiny hiney all over the French Quarter till we found a place that served breakfast all day! :o)  So he got me my birthday breakfast after all!  I had an authentic New Orleans omelet: peppers, onions, cheese, crawfish tails, and crawfish sauce.  I was a little nervous, but it was basically a delicious, spicy seafood omelet!

And our girls?  Didn't miss us all! :o)

So now we're all well rested and refreshed just in time for the mad dash to the finish!  Jess has 7 more days of class.  The movers come Thursday to pack and Friday to load.  It looks like we'll be leaving right on the 16th and hopefully getting to NY by the weekend!
