We Got Flashed!

So Jesse and I finally "got flashed".  Meaning the Polizei finally caught us speeding!  We were warned when we first got to Germany about these infamous traffic cameras and how you'll "get flashed" and then a few months later you'll get your speeding tickets in the mail.  Sometimes the traffic cameras are permanent (like the one that flashed us... so we should have known better) and sometimes they're tricksters and move them around to surprise you!

The best part about this is, as you can see, we BOTH got tickets AT THE SAME TIME.    And if you look close you can see that I have a weird expression on my face... it's cause I was mad at Jesse.  In fact, I was complaining to Toni (who was in the passenger seat) because Jesse wouldn't let me pass him.  We were driving to a restaurant and he didn't know how to get there so I was trying to pass him so I could lead the way... but he was being a BOY and wouldn't let me.  So we were both speeding and then I saw him get flashed (it's like lightning cause of the bright lights) and then... me, too.

Oh wait, no... the best part is that we were just bragging to friends a few weeks before the incident that we still had a clean record after a year in Germany.

Pride comes before the fall.  Bragging comes before the speeding ticket(s).

Interestingly, each ticket was only 15 euros.  Which Jesse still smacks his forehead about (30 euros!) but I shrug my shoulders and say whew only 30 euros!  Guess which one of us is more careful with the money?  Anyways.

Moral of the story:  don't speed in Germany.  Or, don't race on a road that you KNOW has a permanent traffic camera.  And mostly, blog about funny situations where you both get speeding tickets at the same time.

The end.

  1. Man i can't believe you guys just NOW got flashed!!! Hats off and bravo to you! Happened to us twice in Heidelberg. boo. I too was SOOOO very thankful it was only 15 Euros per ticket. This coming from the girl who gets AT LEAST one speeding ticket a year in Texas that costs somewhere around $150. Yikes.

  3. Even better than 15 euro tickets? Montana only posted the 55 mph speed limit b/c the federal gov't required it . . . when we got stopped, we could hand the cop a $5 bill and go on our merry way. That was 25 years ago, so I don't know if it's still true [and then there was that time in the 'construction zone' when they stole the remainder of our wedding money!]

  4. On the Bright side, with the dollar's gain against the euro, you're paying about $1.20 less a ticket when comparing it to May's currency exchange. :0)
