Kids Really Do Say the Darndest Things

Here's a few good Lily-stories that definitely gave me a chuckle and will certainly make the grandparents smile...

I've been a yogurt-making-slacker lately, so we have been buying the tubs from Globus a lot.  They have a picture of a cow on them.  So while I was dishing out yogurt one morning, Lily was saying "Mooooo! Moooooo!" and Sam was chiming in, too.  Trying to insert a teaching moment, I quizzed "Lily, where does yogurt come from?" (thinking she would know the answer was cows! since she was noticing the cow...)  She confidently shouted "THE GROCERY STORE!"  Touche, Lily, touche.

.................................

Jesse's family had to create a rule growing up (in part because they had some foster kids who always answered "why" questions with "because" as a way to avoid answering...) and it was "Because isn't an answer".  Which he has spouted off to me throughout our marriage.  Well.  Remember those all those why questions I've been getting from Miss Lily? Sometimes I just DON'T WANT TO ANSWER.  And apparently, sometimes I answer with "because." (I don't even realize it, I swear!)  Enough that Lily has started saying it... to Jesse...
Jesse: "Lil, why did you pee in your diaper at naptime?"
   Lily: (sweetly) "Cauuuuuuuse."
Jesse:  *dagger eyes at me*  "Because isn't an answer."
Guess what I heard Lily chirping at me from the back seat of the car the other day?  "Cause isn't an answer MOM." Jesse is so proud.

.................................

The girls both like to pretend that they're turning things into "cakies" (aka pancakes).  I'm not sure why, since I don't squish pancakes... but whatever.  They get the concept that a pancake is essentially squished.  Moving on to the other night at bed.  I had told them they could both sit on my lap during story time, and Lily says "On your lap?"
   Me: "Yep, on my lap."
Lily: "You sit on my lap Mom?"
Me:  "No baby, I can't sit on your lap."
   Lily:  "WHY?"
   Me:  "BECAUSE I'd squish you!"
Lily:  "Then I be like a cakie?"

.................................

Me: "Sam, just give me a minute to catch up on a couple things on the computer, then I'll get you some food."
Lily: "I want KETCHUP FOOD!"

.................................

I opened the door to their room the other morning and was greeted by Sam shouting "Nooooooo!!!"
Me: "Good morning!  Don't you want me to get you up and change your diapers?"
   Both Monkeys:  "No!"
Lily:  "Momma go drink yours coffee all gone!"
Me:  "You want me to go downstairs and let you play?"
   Both Monkeys:  "YES!"
Momma doesn't have to be told twice to go enjoy a second cup of coffee and another chapter in her book! :o)

.................................

Bonus from Sam:  We have a habit of saying goodnight to Otterberg when we close the rolladins in the girls' room before bedtimes.  I was closing them with Sam on my hip and she chirps "Ni-ni-Oberger!"
