Get Outside and Breathe

When Alex and Beth suggested we go check out Lake Erie I was definitely game.  The chlorine at an indoor water park kind of gets to ya after awhile, you know?

Besides having some plain old fun and getting a break from the water park, I was reminded of something I know but sometimes forget: being outside is therapeutic.

It doesn't matter so much what I do or where I go outside... but I need to get outside.  I notice it if I haven't been enjoying the good old outdoors for a few days in a row.  There's just something about it.  We need it.

We need to be out in the beauty of God's creation.... smelling the fresh air... enjoying the feel of the sand between your toes or the crunch of the leaves beneath your feet.  Whatever gives you the breath of fresh air you need.

For my siblings, it's hiking.  For me, it's walking around in my neighborhood with my girls happily enjoying the fresh air from the stroller.  I especially like that there are so many great walking paths in Germany... nice to have such nice access to the true blue outdoors just a few blocks away from my house!

So today reminded me that I need to get out and walk more.  Especially as winter is about to set in in Germany.  But we can still have fun outdoors in the snow, right?

  1. We used to go to Lake Erie when I was little to stay with some friends who had a little summer house there. Fun memories. The picture at the top is awesome!

  2. Hey! I definitely believe that we (meaning I) don't get outside much...but I need it. Even just a walk around the block. It is very therapeutic to me as well. Thanks for reminding me!

  3. Love these posts about Erie! My hometown is about 45 minutes from there and I have great memories of going to Lake Erie with my family. I spent an all nighter at Splash Lagoon with my youth group too. Thanks for a trip down memory lane and I'm glad you guys had a good time!

  4. My mom grew up on Lake Erie! I loved going there as a kid when we would visit Ontario. Your photos are amazing! I loved all of them! Like really. I would frame a couple of those!

I love my outside time as well. I am planning on a long walk in the woods tomorrow and I can't wait for you to get back so we can go together. Even if it's snowing!

  5. Thanks Andrew! I've hijacked my parent's point and shoot camera and I've been really impressed with what it can do... plus it reminds me that composition is more important than what kind of camera you have ;o)

Caitlin I totally agree! Even if it's just a walk around town, being outside is so great. It would be best for me to get out every day, but that's something I really have to push myself to do in the colder months.

Nicole I totally forgot I was in your old neck of the woods! So fun!

Jen, I'm definitely planning on framing a few of them :o) And I'm good to go for winter walks cause my jogging stroller has all-terrain wheels and I just got an all-weather cover for it! So once I bundle Double Trouble up, there's no stopping us! ;o)
